Palo Alto, Calif. -- Cable & Wireless (www.cw.com) the worldwide telecommunications group based in Virginia, spearheads both an Interactive Panel Discussion with IBM and Digital Island. a Cable & Wireless company, on outsourcing of major business functions and a Pub Talk on Internet Protocol (IP) this week at the Silicon Valley World Internet Center (www.worldinternetcenter.com) in Palo Alto, California.

Dr. Marguerite Raaen, senior vice president of e-Enablement for Cable & Wireless Global; Ric Telford, director of technology and business development, Intelligent Infrastructure, IBM Corporation; and David Radoff, director of communications for Digital Island led off the Interactive Panel Discussion on Wednesday, August 22, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Center. To outsource major enterprise-level processes, including Web hosting, network management, customer relationship management, and supply-chain management, or keep the work in-house is one of the new challenges for eBusiness. Raaen, Telford and Schultz established their positions on outsourcing's pros and cons for the first 30 minutes before the audience engaged them in a lively 90-minute discussion around key themes.

In a second program slated for Thursday, August 23, Raaen will deliver a 15-minute Pub Talk entitled "Delivering on the Promise of IP," which will highlight Cable & Wireless's capabilities in the Internet arena. The Pub Talk will be followed by a question and answer period. The Pub is held every Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Center in Palo Alto.

"Centers for the advancement of Internet technology are necessary for all industries to make dramatic improvements to the Internet for businesses," said Raaen. "The Silicon Valley World Internet Center is an ideal environment for this new age of alliances. They facilitate their key corporate sponsors to discuss, share ideas, debate the new technologies and shape the future of eBusiness."

Cable & Wireless is the Center's newest corporate sponsor, joining an elite group of global technology companies, including Amdocs, Deutsche Telekom, Fujitsu, IBM, SAP and Sun Microsystems, which are collaborating at the Center to advance the Internet economy.
